Raising Prayers is a competition proposal for an iconic mosque beside the Dubai Creek Tower — and an argument, in built form, for what a mosque of this scale could be.

The site already held one of Islamic architecture’s two defining forms: the slender vertical of the Creek Tower reads as a contemporary minaret. The proposal completes the language by introducing the second — a vast dome, half-open to the sky. Within it, the prayer hall is suspended on tensioned cables, lifted clear of the ground and held within the embrace of the dome.

The central idea lies in the title itself. Rather than occupying the site entirely, the proposal preserves the ground for landscape, shade, and gathering. Trees take root below, while the act of prayer is elevated — physically and symbolically — toward the sky. The architecture rises; the earth remains alive.

By separating worship from the ground plane, the project reimagines the relationship between spirituality, nature, and public space. The mosque becomes both landmark and sanctuary — a place where faith is experienced between earth and sky.

The proposal exceeded the brief. Some architectural arguments earn the right to be made at full scale.
